Today, it seems like everyone is talking about transitioning away from orphanages and toward family-based care. However, messaging about family care models doesn’t seem to recognize the complexities that vulnerable children and communities face. In this workshop, we’ll address the real challenges and concerns regarding shifting from residential care to family-based care, such as safety of children, government support, lack of community services, cultural barriers, and more. We will consider ways to overcome these challenges and move towards seeing more children in safe and loving families.
